Application Technology Scientist

Tasks and responsibilities

We currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Application Technology Scientist at our facility in Noord-Holland. In this position you will function as a scientist in the Global Seed Technology Research Group aimed at developing innovative enhanced seed technology products. Your responsibilites will include, but not limited to:

1. Conduct basic and applied research on vegetable seeds in the area of materials application technology for seed applied actives (insecticides, fungicides, biologicals, plant growth activators) and seed enhancement (priming, invigorizing).

2. Assist EMEA Open Field Lead in development and continuous improvement activities related to seed enhancement, seed sanitation and conditioning and upgrading.

3. Work with other Seed Technology scientists and production staff to support and evaluate priming, coatings, seed treatments and biologicals.

4. Participate in multi-functional project teams and provide written monthly reports and regularly communicate project status and timelines to management team.

5. Actively participates in Monsanto ESH Program.

The following task can be part of this postition, but is not leading:
6.Demonstrate formulation feasibility for existing and new product application development and assessment of technology used in a variety of coating applications. Ensure fitness for use, mechanical/chemical benefits, stability, consumer appeal, processing capabilities and cost effectiveness.

Skills and qualifications

  • HBO, HLO or HAS bachelor with experience in processing within the industrial industry or manufacturing. This can be for example in a QA or procestechnology postion within the food-, chemical, horticulture or seedtreatment industry.
  • Product development experience in the seed industry highly desirable.
  • A working knowledge of seed physiology and board understanding of pelleting and seed enhancement technology.
  • Excellent communications skills including the capability to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral or written communications.
  • Decision making and problem solving skills. Capability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced global and multi-cultural vegetable seed company.
  • Use of statistical analysis in problem solving and decision making.
  • Knowledge of or interest in process improvement tools like Six Sigma and LEAN for improvement of existing processes and reducing waste.
